ROM update for HTC PPC-6800/Sprint Mogul... [Sep. 26th, 2008|11:30 pm]

Quick question about updating the ROM on my Sprint Mogul...

Will all the programs that I've installed on the memory card continue to work after I install a ROM update? I can't remember whether or not anything is added to the registry on the handset itself when a program is installed on a memory card.

I've tried to Google this, but I'm not coming up with any answers.

Thanks for your help!

i had no problem using the programs i had on my memory card after the update to 6.1.

though i usually keep the .cab files around so in case something gets corrupted i can always reinstall it

Well, there's one way to find out - do the update. :) But seriously, I did the upgrade and it wipes out the device of any additional programs you may install. Mine were all installed to the device itself. On the original firmware the phone came with, when I did the first upgrade for it, a program on the memory card no longer worked, so I'm betting that it will be the same for this ROM update.

It'll remove registry entries, as well as shortcuts, so your best bet is to just re-install them all to make it easy.

A good guideline is to just keep all the cabs for your installs like on the SD card to install just in case you are out and have to hard reset the phone (I've had this happen before).

They are usually in \Program Files\Activesync or \Program Files\(Program Name)

I updated my I760 to 6.1 and everything on my device was wiped clean. The memory card had all my programs on it, but any shortcuts were cleaned off the device. Since it takes your phone back to factory settings.
